After taking the silver medal in the 10,000m Race Walk at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Priyanka Goswami said it was a proud moment for her when the national flag was raised after her victory. Indian athlete Priyanka Goswami took a silver medal for the country after finishing second in the final of the women’s 10,000m walk race at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday.
She clocked the times of 43:38.00, her personal best. She was always in the race for a medal because she was in first position initially. As she progressed she lost her lead but at the finish she was still good enough to finish in second place.
“I’m delighted to have won the first medal in race walk in #CWG for India… Whoever won gold this time also won gold in the last CWG, but I will try to win the next one. Very proud that the national flag was raised by me,” Priyanka Goswami told ANI.
“Asian Games and the Olympics are next. My nail polish symbolizes all the countries I’ve been to this year’s Olympics and other tournaments. I dedicate my medal to my ‘Laddoo Gopal’ and my family,” she added .
Topping the gold medal is Australian Jemima Montag, clocking 42:34.30. It is not only her personal best, but also a new CWG record. Initially, she was in third place. But by the time she crossed 5,000m, she had a head start and never looked back.
Emily Wamusyi Ngii from Kenya took the bronze medal. She clocked the time of 43:50.86, a personal best for her.
Another Indian competitor Bhawna Jat finished in eighth position with a time of 47:14.13, her best.
