Realme 8 Pro has been put through JerryRigEverything’s durability testing and passed without catastrophic damage. However, the main result of the test was that the back of the smartphone is plastic and can easily be scratched if you keep it with a sharp object in your pocket. The flame test also did not cause the display to malfunction. The smartphone launched on March 24 with a Full HD + Super AMOLED display and support for fast charging. It comes with a quad rear camera setup, underscored by a 108-megapixel main sensor.

The video posted by Zack Nelson, popularly known as YouTube channel host JerryRigEverything, shows the durability of the Realme 8 Pro smartphone. Overall, the phone withstood JerryRigEverything’s durability tests which involved testing the screen’s scratch resistance, structural rigidity, and screen durability under direct heat. However, being a budget device with a lot of features, the back and the chassis of the smartphone are made of plastic, which makes it extremely prone to scratches. The camera module is also made of plastic, but the camera itself is protected by glass. Realme offers a silicone back cover to protect the phone.

Mohs’ hardness scale test shows that Realme 8 Pro gets scratches at level six with deeper grooves at level seven. Glass usually scratches at level five or six, which basically means the phone has performed as planned. Scratching the area just above the on-screen fingerprint scanner did not affect the performance of the scanner, according to the video. Besides the frame and back, the earpiece also has a plastic grille.

Then there was a combustion test in which the flame of a lighter was held directly over the screen. Realme 8 Pro held for 24 seconds of direct flame. During the final structural stiffness test, Nelson “heard a crack”, but there was nothing noticeable on the outside. Also, the phone did not break or lose its shape, and there was no gap in the screen and body of the phone after testing.
