The five-game T20I series between India and South Africa ended 2-2 after the series decider at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium was abandoned due to rain on Sunday. Only 3.3 overs were possible in the match and India managed to post 28/2 in that span. South Africa had won the first two T20Is, but Team India managed to stage a comeback in the next two, to tie the series at 2-2.

Indian Team Head Coach Rahul Dravid spoke at a press conference after the last T20I was retired due to rain and he spoke about the form of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dinesh Karthik and the brand of cricket his team wanted to play.

Asked about his views on captaining Rishabh Pant, the 52-year-old said: “It was good. To take a team from 0-2 to 2-2 with a chance to win the series is good. The captain is not just about wins and losses, you can’t do that. I think he’s a young captain and he’s growing and learning. Too early to judge him, it’s not something you want to do after a series or a few games. But, it’s It’s good that he had the opportunity to show it. He understands what it is to lead, to keep and to put so much load on him. It’s about learning and benefiting from it. Thanks to him, he knew how to work with the team.”

“When you’re in the middle and you’re asking people to play cricket a bit more attacking, looking to take the game, sometimes it’s very difficult to judge based on 2-3 games. I thought it ( Pant) had a pretty good IPL, in terms of you know, might not have looked good in the averages, but I thought his strike rate was good in the IPL In that process, he might be wrong but he remains an integral part of our batting lineup with the power he has and what he can do He played some good shots of course personally he would have liked to score a few more runs but it didn’t is not that concerning. It is certainly part of our plans for the next few months.”

Speaking about the form of Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dravid said: “Yeah, we’re not going to do knee-jerk reactions on people, I don’t like judging people after a streak or a game. Every one of the guys who had an opportunity here, really deserved the opportunity. They deserved it, in this game format you are going to have good plays and bad plays. Shreyas Iyer, he showed a lot of intention on some tricky wickets and got played positively for us. Ruturaj showed in one set, the quality and skill that he has. In 20-20, you can have odd games, where it goes up and down a bit, your form and performance. We we’re not very disappointed with anyone, as a group we were looking to play a certain brand of cricket,” Dravid told a news conference.

“We were looking to play a slightly positive and attacking brand of cricket from the start. It won’t always happen, but we were certain of the brand of cricket we wanted to play. We will start looking to build the team from the World Cup as quickly as possible. Whether that happens in the next series or the series after that is hard to say, but certainly we’re looking to do it as quickly as possible.” added.

Speaking about Dinesh Karthik, Dravid said: “It was very nice to see Dinesh Karthik come out and do what he was really chosen to do. It opens up a lot more options for us going forward. A round like this , i’ve been telling the guys that you have to start slamming the door, not knocking on the door, it’s about slamming the door and a sleeve like that, definitely means he (Karthik) is hitting really hard .
