Should all Ukrainians continue to receive protection?

“We cannot go on as before forever” – criticism of the protection status S for people from Ukraine

The Ukraine war triggered great solidarity in Switzerland. Thanks to protection status S, Ukrainians can be admitted unbureaucratically. But now criticism is stirring – not only from the SVP.

Great solidarity – but how long does it last?

SVP national councilor Martina Bircher made the start. People from Ukraine are entitled to protection, she said in May of the “SonntagsZeitung”, to immediately restrict: “But we cannot continue as before forever.” She suggested limiting protection status S to eastern Ukraine. That would mean that only people from this area would be accepted quickly and unbureaucratically; all others would have to go through the regular asylum procedure.
