Dubai: Some roads in Dubai will be closed for a few hours on Friday April 2 from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to pave the way for a cycling event, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) tweeted on Thursday.
The RTA said, “Find out which roads will be affected during the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge 2021 on Friday April 2, 6 am-10.30am. Leave early and use alternate routes to reach your destination. “
The streets concerned are in Dubai Sports City as well as Hessa Street, Al Asayel, Garn Al Sabkha Road, First Al Khail Steet, Al Khamila Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street (the part between Global Village and Expo Road)
Alternative routes are Al Quadra Road, Shaikh Zayed Road, Al Yalayis Street, Shaikh Zayed Road and Emirates Road.
92 km cycling challenge
Organizers said the cycling challenge consists of a crossing of Dubai that covers a whopping 92 km. “The main roads are closed specifically for the event, which gives cyclists a rare opportunity to cycle through the emirate and admire the scenery. It has such worldwide recognition that runners come from all over the world to participate. “
The Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge is one of the top sporting races in the Middle East, regularly attracting thousands of runners from all over the world. The event celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019 with 1,500 cyclists participating in three rides and 2,500 participating in the final race.
According to organizers, this year’s event will run under COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
