Southern border crossings hit an all-time record. This is a national security crisis

We seem to be breaking all kinds of records lately, although maybe not the records we want to break. From crime rates to homelessness, we continue to strive for ever-increasing numbers.

The southern border is no exception to this phenomenon, with illegal border crossings crossing two million for the first time, with one month left in the fiscal year.

But as the vice president said, the border is secure, so why do we keep talking about it?

As much as the Biden administration would like us to believe that there’s nothing to see at the border but vicious Republican politicians and tumbleweed, we face an unsustainable crisis toward Mexico.

The longer we ignore it, the more dangerous it becomes. Before we get into the dangers lurking in the south, let’s take a closer look at the numbers.

By the numbers

Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) reported that there were 203,598 illegal immigrants “encounters” on the southern border last month — in other words, people trying to cross the border illegally and coming into contact with U.S. officials. But unfortunately that’s just the number they know of; there is no mechanism to fix the number of ‘escapees’.

Gotaways are the ones that, as the name implies, have walked away clean. Over the border and inland.

Last month’s figures bring the total number of meetings for fiscal year 2022 to an unthinkable 2,150,370, with a month to go.

The last time we broke the record for encounters at the southern border was the previous fiscal year, when we crossed 1.7 million. That’s an increase of 450,000 additional migrants or the equivalent of two months of migrants arriving this year.

There have been several months in which the Dutch DPA has detained 8,000 illegal immigrants at the border in one day. If that were the daily norm, that would mean 56,000 withdrawn at the border every week.

So let’s see, in the 11 months of this fiscal year we’ve had 2,150,370 encounters. Let’s compare that to some other numbers.

Think of it this way, we have the equivalent of the city of Houston flowing into our southern border. The world condemned, and rightly so, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

We have 14 times as many people invading our southern border. Or, to put it another way, the equivalent of the Chinese military on active duty has bombed the border.

The number of people who have attempted to cross is greater than the total population of 15 entire states: New Mexico, Nebraska, Idaho, West Virginia, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Maine, Montana, Rhode Island, Delaware, South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska, Vermont and Wyoming.

Did anyone vote for this? Do the American people have anything to say about it?

This is good, it’s good, everything is good

The Biden administration that likes to praise science doesn’t seem to enjoy math so much. If you ask them, they claim the numbers are distorted because 22% of migrants arrested are repeats.

Apparently it should make us feel better that after we catch migrants trying to illegally cross our border they are in no way deterred and turn around and come right back. I know it makes me feel better; doesn’t it make you feel better?

Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press officer, thinks we should celebrate everything they’ve done for the border, stating:

“More people found at the border will be removed or expelled this year than in any other year.”

Is it because border patrols are better at apprehending and removing illegal immigrants? Or is it just because there are so many more who make the journey?

Depending on the news source you watch or read, Republican governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida have begun transporting and flying migrants to Democratic cities out of frustration or to make political points. I’d say it’s probably a bit of both.

Others have gone even further in their accusations against the two governors. Let’s take a look at what they say.

Apart from reality

The mayors of Chicago, New York City and Washington DC have called Governor Abbott’s bus transportation of migrants to their cities “inhumane.” I find it amazing that these supposedly highly educated individuals can stand on their stages and say with a straight face that it is inhumane to bus migrants to self-proclaimed refuges.

But the Democrats really turned their lids on when Governor DeSantis reportedly flew 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, demonstrating the urgent need to revamp our education system, called the action tantamount to “crimes against humanity.”

Proving that her shame knows no bounds, former failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton agreed with the talking heads on MSNBC that Governor DeSantis sent 50 migrants by plane to Martha’s Vineyard “literally human trafficking.” It literally isn’t.

Coyotes hunting down people for thousands of dollars for their help illegally crossing the border of a sovereign nation? That is human trafficking.

Jay Jurden on Jon Stewart’s YouTube channel joked:

“I don’t want to make this racist again, but it – the country has a history of putting non-white people on ships and saying, ‘Yeah, yeah. It will be nice if you get where you are going.”

With all this talk of crimes against humanity, human trafficking, and other political points of discussion about what these two Republican governors have been up to, I think it’s essential to look at what’s happening at the border beyond the pure numbers.

The dangerous reality

Catherine Chen, CEO of the Polaris project — which focuses on ending sex and labor trafficking — said of Democrats’ rhetoric that throwing around the term human trafficking when it’s not appropriate in this case ends:

“… downplaying or erasing the real, lived experiences of survivors.”

Mexico is the leading country of origin for human trafficking in the United States. Many migrants are told by people who look like them that they will be brought to the United States under false promises.

Only to be sold and shipped to cities like Chicago and New York City to perform sexual or labor activities. That is literally human trafficking, and it happens every day on our southern border.

Last month, officials arrested eight people involved in a people-smuggling gang at the border believed to have made a net profit of $2.3 million this year. A border official said the border was a:

“giant multi-billion dollar piece of a sprawling puzzle connecting drug trafficking and criminal activity.”

Speaking of drugs, fentanyl is pouring into our country through the southern border at alarming rates and has become the leading cause of death among adults ages 18 to 45. knives hidden in candy bars, a new hidden danger is now waiting to kill their children: rainbow fentanyl.

Rainbow fentanyl looks like a sweet pie or a smartie. Only it will kill your child within minutes of ingestion.

As Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner said of the fentanyl crisis:

“It’s frankly a deadly tsunami collapsing the United States over our southern border.”

Dick moves

I love numbers, so let’s wrap up this discussion with a few more. So far, 78 have been apprehended at our southern border who were on the terrorism screening list.

How many potential terrorists were? not caught?

In June, 53 migrants were killed when smugglers put them in a tractor-trailer with a faulty cooling system. So far, 750 migrants have died illegally crossing our border.

Last financial year, 557 migrants died. Talk to me again about the inhumane, Mayor Adams, Mayor Lightfoot and Mayor Bowser.

Good old Hillary Clinton painted a pretty good picture on MSNBC of how she thinks most Americans respond to migrants, stating:

“They will feed them and house them and the kids in the UKTN Spanish class will be dropped out of high school so they can start translating.”

But that’s not what happened at Martha’s Vineyard. Within 48 hours, they had the Massachusetts National Guard remove the migrants from the island.

I think there must have been a test in UKTN Spanish that day. Jon Stewart said on his YouTube channel that:

“…it’s very clear right now that the road to Republican power is in silliness.”

Maybe, but I’d say the Democrats have turned out to be a bit of a nerd. It’s quite a dick move to pretend everything is okay at the border while hundreds are dying, countless others are being sold as modern slavery, and adults are being poisoned by fentanyl.

On this point I agree with Jon:

“…this country is doing a bad job of taking care of the people who are already here.”

Excellent point Jon. Maybe someone should do something about it?
