Sri Lanka won the game by four points to take an unassailable 3-1 series lead. After setting Australia a target of 259 runs, the hosts took wickets at regular intervals until 19 were needed for the final run.
It was David Warner’s show for Australia in pursuit. Australians are criticized for being clueless against spinners, but on spin bowling terrain and against an army of spin bowlers, Australians applied themselves, showed skill and temperament, and rode through the period hard with aplomb.

Australia’s chase started off on a low note with Aaron Finch falling early. David Warner, however, put his head down and focused on building partnerships. Along with Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey and Travis Head, Warner continued to sew pits and maintained a good pace in the chase.
Australia looked like favorites at one point, but Sri Lanka made a resounding comeback as they brushed off Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell and David Warner in the space of 9 balls to open this game in broad daylight.
Pat Cummins and Cameron Green attempted to regain control of their stand, as the asking rate was not very demanding, but Sri Lanka fought back to take them out and recorded a narrow victory.

The hosts slipped to 34-3 after being batted first, with fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh and spinner Matthew Kuhnemann each taking two wickets.
