On Sunday, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, turbaned no less than 20 dignitaries, including three sons of the 18th Sultan of Sokoto, the late Ibrahim Dasuki, with traditional caliphate titles.
NAN reports that the turbaning ceremony took place at the Sultan’s Palace, the ancient city of Sokoto and the seat of the Caliphate.
The event was unique and offered its most famous traditional honor and hospitality to dignitaries, making it the first of its kind in the history of the Caliphate.
In his speech at the ceremony, the Sultan instructed the new title holders to remain committed to strengthening the administrative roles and responsibilities of the Caliphate to humanity.
Abubakar said the event was historic as it traces the footprints of the determined legacy of the late Othman Dan Fodiyo.
“Your turbanning is a great honor and an opportunity to serve society and the entire Sokoto Caliphate. For this reason, I expect you to shoulder all responsibilities with dedication and commitment.
“We humbly believe that you would help achieve a favorable and rewarding Ramadan, in peace and for the benefit of Muslims, while keeping people closer to the caliphate.
“In addition, people should continue to pray for the turbanized, to enable them to fulfill the responsibilities that are incumbent upon them all,” he said.
Abubakar further called on Nigerians to maintain their prayers for the leaders, to enable them to meet all the security challenges that plague some parts of the country.
