Team Lions 2021: When is the announcement?


After months of guesswork, Warren Gatland will soon announce that his Lions squad will take on South Africa for the 2021 edition of the Lions Tour.

It is expected that there will be a strong Scottish contingent this time around after an impressive Six Nations campaign and two of the Scottish coaches being included in the tour staff. England players are however in the opposite position after a bad tournament at the wrong time.

There was good news for Premiership-based players on Tuesday, as it was confirmed that players who are not involved in the play-offs will be released for the Lions training camp and the warm-up game against the Japan.

Partly due to the difficulties of traveling during a pandemic, Gatland is expected to appoint a team of 36 men. The Lions took 41 to New Zealand four years ago.

The team will be announced on Thursday, May 6.
