Teva X TerraCycle Announces TevaForever Recycling Program for ‘Beloved’ Sandals

Teva has been making sandals for the Girlfriend and Traveler since 1984 in the Grand Canyon by a young raft guide. The guide attached two Velcro watch straps to an old pair of flip flops, preventing them from floating off the foot. Today, eco-friendly athletic footwear brand Teva is announcing the TevaForever recycling program in partnership with TerraCycle, a leading international expert in recycling and waste management. The TevaForever makes it easy for the Teva wearer to give back and get rid of their worn out sandals. Teva allows owners of “beloved” sandals to send their old pairs to a TerraCycle location at no cost to the customer. The sandals are diverted from landfills, cleaned, broken down and processed by manufacturers.

Manufacturers then recycle the processed material for practical application. Applications include track ground cover, playgrounds and sports fields. Teva’s long-term goal is to eventually come full circle in their sandal production, turning worn out pairs into new ones.

Recognized for its iconic universal strapping system, Teva made the switch to 100% verifiable and traceable recycled plastic using REPREVE wire in 2020. REPREVE has been responsible for the removal and recycling of 25 million plastic bottles from their cemeteries oceanic.

Teva has diverted more than 40.2 million plastic bottles since 2020, more than 1.5 million pounds of plastic from landfills. With the help of TerraCycle, Teva is standardizing a recycling process for its iconic sandals and reducing its carbon footprint.
