The government sets up a panel to review the technical internship program for foreign interns

The government on Tuesday assembled a panel of experts, mainly made up of academics, local councilors and lawyers, to review the country’s problematic overseas technical internship program and suggest ways to improve it.

An increasing number of cases of harassment and abuse of foreign trainees on the Technical Intern Training Program has led to increasing criticism at home and abroad of the decades-old program, with claims that it is a cover for companies to import cheap labor instead of of a program to transfer skills to developing countries.
