The time is right: Midnight Oil announces retirement and final tour in shocking statement

Australian rockers Midnight Oil shocked fans on Friday when they announced they were about to embark on a final concert tour.

The group, which formed in Sydney in 1972 and led by former politician and environmental activist Peter Garrett, 68, released a statement this week but insisted the group was not going their separate ways.

The group will take to the stage across the country in February for a series of performances during their Resist tour, to promote their album of the same name.

“The group also announced that it will be their last concert tour, while specifying that this does not mean the end of the Oils,” said a statement from the group Mushroom.

“Each of the members will pursue their own projects in the years to come,” he continued.

“They remain very open to recording new music together in the future and supporting causes they believe in, but this will be their last tour.”

In a statement, Peter said “time does not stand still for anyone” but promises fans will leave their shows “loaded”.

“We all know time refuses to stand still for anyone, but after many years together the spirit of the band runs deep, the music and the words are strong, and our ideas and actions as bold as possible. “he said in a statement.
