Cape Town – Three suspects were arrested last night after a 41-year-old man was shot dead in front of his child on Monday at his residence in Thornton, Cape Town.
The trio are due to appear in Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges of murder, while another drug charge will be heard in Khayelitsha Magistrate Court, the Western Cape Police spokesman said on Friday, Colonel Andrè Traut.
The attackers fled the scene in a rental vehicle with cloned license plates. With the help of the car rental company, the silver Toyota Yaris was identified and tracked to Khayelitsha, he said.
Members of the National Intervention Unit spotted the vehicle in Khayelitsha and apprehended the three occupants, a 24-year-old man and two 25-year-olds.
While all three suspects were held for Thornton’s murder, the 24-year-old suspect also faces an additional charge for drug possession.
“The same vehicle has been linked to a recent burglary case in Grassy Park and a house theft in Somerset West, and more charges against the suspects may soon be added,” Traut added.
