The libel lawsuit of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has now received renewed attention after the unsealing of more than 6,000 pages of court documents from the former couple’s legal battle.

Depp had filed a $50 million lawsuit against his ex-wife in response to a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post, in which she stated that she was a survivor of domestic violence. On June 1, after 61 hours of testimony from both sides, the jury ruled that Ms. Heard had in fact defamed Mr. Depp and awarded him more than $10 million in damages. Individual, News week reported that the documents also brought up one of the most memorable talking points of the trial: Mr Depp’s severed finger. In April, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor alleged that Ms. Heard threw a large bottle of vodka at him during a fight at a house they were staying at in Australia in 2015, cutting the tip of his finger.

In the unsealed documents, a transcript of a statement from Jennifer Howell, a former friend and boss of Ms. Heard’s sister Whitney Henriquez, shows her memory of the alleged incident.

Howell had told Camille Vasquez, Depp’s attorney, “I was sitting right where I am now because I’m sitting at my desk in the office. So I was sitting here at my computer, working, in my zone, reacting, doing “Whatever I was doing. And right over there at that moment there were two black and white chairs with a table in between. Whitney was sitting in one of the black and white chairs.”

“There’s also a door there that goes out, and she just yelled, ‘She’s done it now. She cut off his damn finger,’ and made this huge proclamation. And I pushed my chair back. I was like , ‘What?’

“And she says, ‘She cut off his finger. She cut off his finger.’ And then she shot out the door and said, “I have to call someone. I have to call someone.” And she went out and called someone. I don’t know who called her. That’s what was said,” Ms Howell added, according to the outlet.

He had stated that he had told the doctor that he had slammed his finger into a large accordion door. He told the jury that he didn’t want to get his ex-wife in trouble. “I didn’t want to put her name in that mix,” he said.

Notably, Mr. Depp has previously filed a libel suit against… The sun in the United Kingdom after the publication, the actor called a woman-beater. He lost that case. Separately, he faces a lawsuit in Los Angeles by a movie location manager, who claims the actor beat him.
