Police are investigating the death of a man while he was arrested in Cranbourne, south-east Melbourne, on Tuesday evening.
Police said officers approached the man, who was walking in traffic on the High Street at around 11:40 p.m., and attempted to pull him off the road.
“Officers asked the man to pull off the road for his own safety, but he continued to walk on the road and became aggressive towards the police,” police said in a statement.
“The police then attempted to arrest the man, but he appeared to be suffering from a health problem.”
Police began CPR before paramedics arrived, but the 32-year-old man died at the scene.
The Homicide Squad and the Professional Standards Command are investigating the incident as it constitutes a death in custody.
