VIDEO “SNL” Sketches From Last Night: Watch Cold Open Mock George Santos, Cameos From Joe Biden, Amy Poehler

After a long hiatus, “Saturday Night Live” returned with guest host Aubrey Plaza and musical guest Sam Smith.

In the 10th episode of Season 48, the NBC sketch comedy show wasted no time mocking Congressman George Santos, the embattled New York Republican who made headlines for weeks for making false statements about his background.

The episode also featured cameos from President Joe Biden and former cast member Amy Poehler. Like Plaza, Poehler starred in the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” Other cameos included actress Allison Williams, Jonathan and Drew Scott, otherwise known as the “Property Brothers”, as well as skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.

German singer Kim Petras joined Smith in the first musical segment and actress Sharon Stone appeared in Smith’s second appearance.

Here are some highlights from the episode.

Opened cold

“SNL” began the episode by mocking the studio hosts of “NFL on UKTN” for their shallow analysis. The skit devolved into mocking Santos, played by cast member Bowen Yang.

At one point, Santos – assuming his new role as a UKTN side reporter – quotes his “stats,” which are not only bizarre but have nothing to do with the sport, such as 17 rebounds and 10 RBI. He also claims he was “the first African American player to dunk a football”.

In perhaps the best-executed part of the episode, Plaza remembered her days as an NBC page, but not before Biden appeared in a video to praise the Delaware native.

“You are the most famous person from Delaware, and there is no doubt about it,” Biden said. “We’re just thankful that you made it out of ‘White Lotus’ alive.”

Plaza denounced her lack of professionalism and knowledge as a former page, claiming the stage was built in 1599 by William Shakespeare. She used air quotes to affirm that she was “what they called a ‘bad page’ with ‘terrible telephone etiquette’.” then takes a phone call and uses an English accent to hilariously point out that ‘Lorne Michaels isn’t here, is he? So toodaloo back to you.

She later runs into Poehler. “Aubrey, I see you’re wearing your pageant jacket. Are you drinking again? asked Poehler, also noticing that Plaza had stolen her wallet.

A video segment on “The White Lotus” included cast member Chloe Fineman’s impersonation of Jennifer Coolidge. The sketch involved a luxury hotel called “The Black Lotus”, with a black staff impatient with the obnoxious and privileged white guests.

Another skit involved a parody trailer of the sci-fi thriller ‘M3gan’. It involves Fineman as the murderous robot puppet and Plaza as a gay-friendly upgrade.

Weekend update

Yes, more was spotted with Santos. Other topics included Biden’s missing classified documents, the rivalry between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, and the US debt limit.

Co-anchor Michael Che: “Donald Trump responded to reports that Ron DeSantis would run against him for the Republican nomination, saying, ‘We’ll handle this the way I do things.’ So rough and without permission?”

Santos co-host Michael Jost said: “George Santos is facing multiple investigations for lying about almost every aspect of his life to make himself seem much more successful than he is — earning him the nickname ‘Instagram’. Of all George Santos’ lies, my favorite was that he was an outstanding volleyball player for Baruch College. That’s nice to be, but insane to pretend. Like, that’s his fantasy? It’s like asking a child, “What do they want to be when they grow up?” And they say, ‘I don’t know? Assistant manager at Kohl’s?’”

“Saturday Night Live” returns this week with host Michael B. Jordan and rapper Lil Baby.
