Young India opener Shubman Gill is in ominous form these days, as he scored his fourth century against New Zealand in Indore on Tuesday (Jan. 24). Gill’s average in ODI is a whopping 73.76. When Gill scored the 112 points against New Zealand in the third ODI at Indore, he equaled Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s record of scoring most points (360) in a three match ODI series.
In a post-game video interview, Shubman was asked to choose between legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar and former India skipper Virat Kohli. Shubman, 23, replied: “I think Virat Bhai because…Sachin sir is the reason why I started playing cricket because my dad was his big fan. When he retired I was too young to understand cricket. By the time I started to understand cricket a little better, I would say Virat bhai because as a batsman I learned a lot from him.”
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also had a superb performance in the third ODI as he reached his maiden ODI century after a three-year hiatus. India then scored 385 for nine to beat New Zealand by 90 runs to win the series 3-0.
Gill scored a total of 360 points in three ODIs and jumped six positions in the ODI rankings. Gill now has a lead over Virat Kohli in the standings as Kohli is now in seventh place.
