“The whole community will be shocked”
Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, Police Commander for the North West including Barnet, said: “The entire community will be shocked and saddened to learn of this terrible incident.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the woman and child who died, and to the officers and paramedics who were the first to arrive at an incredibly difficult scene.
“Specialized detectives are working to establish what happened and a man is in custody. As they keep an open mind as to what happened, I would like to reassure residents of the area that there is nothing to indicate at this stage that anyone else was involved in this incident.
“I urge anyone who saw or heard anything unusual earlier today, or in the past few days, to come forward and speak to the police. Your information could be vital as the investigation progresses. “
