Reigning Asian junior champions Vishwanath Suresh and Vanshaj were among eight Indian boxers to advance to the quarter-finals on the fifth day of the Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships in La Nucia, Spain. Vishwanath (48kg) took on Italy’s Attrativo Salvatore and the Chennai boxer turned in a clinical performance, displaying his clever footwork and speed to win the pre-quarter final convincingly 5-0. Vanshaj (63.5 kg), who hails from Sonipat, showed his strength and technical superiority by defeating Spain’s Kakulov Enrique 5-0 to reach the quarter-finals.
Jadumani Singh (51 kg), Ashish (54 kg) and Deepak (75 kg) were the other three male boxers who won their fights unanimously and advanced to the last eight stage.
Jadumani and Ashish won against Spain’s Jimenez Asier and Pamisa Eijay of the Philippines, respectively, while Deepak defeated Argentina’s Leiva Antonio.
In the women’s section, Bhawna Sharma (48 kg) and Asian Junior Champion Tamanna (50 kg) won their respective fights against Poland’s Oliwia Zuzanna and Finland’s Pia Jarvinen by RSC judgment and advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the 54 kg pre-quarterfinal, Griviya Devi overcame the challenge of Romania’s Ana Maria Romantov to secure a 5-0 verdict in her favour.

Aman Rathore (67 kg) was the only Indian boxer to finish on the losing side as he lost 2-3 to Iraqi Yousif Hussein in a close fight.
Five Indians, including two men, will play in the last 16 leg on the sixth day of the tournament.
Devika Ghorpade (52 kg), Preeti Dahiya (57 kg) and Mahak Sharma (66 kg) will compete in the women’s section.
Sahil Chauhan (71kg) and Bharat Joon (92kg) will take the men’s ring.
